WHAT IS MANGOSTEEN, AND WHERE DID IT COME FROM?
Mangosteen is an exotic “superfruit” that is sometimes called “The Queen Of Fruits.” It is super flavorful and super healthy for your skin. You can peel it and eat it, or there are now a lot of mangosteen supplements and teas hitting the market because people are beginning to realize how nutritious it is.
Mangosteen isn’t actually related to the mango plant at all. They are small-ish, like an apple, and covered in a thick purple peel that keeps the sweet, white fruit safe inside. Originally, mangosteen came from South East Asia, and Europeans brought it back to Queen Victoria in the 19th century. Rumor has it (from National Geographic) that Queen Victoria enjoyed the flavor of mangosteen – which is a blend of lychee, peach, strawberry, and pineapple – so much that she would grant a knighthood to anyone who brought her a mangosteen.

Skin & Health Benefits Of Mangosteen
Mangosteen has a high concentration of antioxidants. In fact, most of the health benefits of mangosteen come from its rind. The rind of a mangosteen fruit has a type of antioxidants called xanthones (according Men’s Health). These xanthones fight heart attacks and support a healthy immune system, according to researchers at the University of Illinois. Dr. Axe believes xanthones will become a focus for cancer treatment and prevention. In addition to being high in antioxidants, mangosteen also helps control blood sugar levels and aids in digestion.
For the skin, the mangosteen has been used for a number of conditions, including eczema.
